Reading to Kids is a grassroots organization dedicated to inspiring underserved children with a love of reading, thereby enriching their lives and opportunities for future success. Reading aloud to children imparts a love of books that leads to improved literacy, a more successful education, and a brighter future.
Reading to Kids organizes monthly reading clubs on the second Saturday of every month at seven downtown Los Angeles elementary schools. From 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. pairs of volunteer create a fun environment as they read aloud to small groups of 4 to 6 K-5th grade children. They also create arts and crafts projects about the stories. Each child receives a book to take home and the books read aloud are donated to the school's library. To volunteer, click here.
