It's getting to be our firm belief that our city should have some major event each summer that inspires creative deals and wacky sweepstakes and such. A not-too-stressful, everyone-eventually-wins event, of course.
Carmageddon wins the crown for 2011. Yep, the July 16 and 17 weekend will be stressful for many, and it will likely create 405-close back-ups galore, but dozens if not hundreds of local businesses are lemonading that particular lemon. We're charmed.
One company breaking out the related deals is Westfield. Shoppers at a trio of the group's shopping centers will find all sorts of packages and contests. We like the "I Survived the 405" $500 gas card contest. That is one tie-in that definitely makes sense.
The participating Westfields include Culver City, Century City, and Fashion Square. There's a full-on tailgate party going down in Culver City, but each of the centers have several things happening on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17. If you find yourself at one, inquire about gift cards and special activities at the information booth.
