Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón recommended resentencing for Erik and Lyle Menendez just two weeks ago. Now, Gascón has lost reelection campaign, and the city’s District Attorney-elect Nathan Hochman could withdraw the resentencing request.

While supporters and relatives of Erik and Lyle Menendez have advocated for their resentencing and possible release from prison, current and former prosecutors who tried the brothers in the 1990s told NBC News that they believe the men are cold-blooded killers and should remain where they are — behind bars.

Los Angeles county’s next top prosecutor will likely seek a delay in the Menendez brothers’ re-sentencing case at a December hearing as he seeks to review facts and evidence in the decades-old case, multiple sources close to Los Angeles County District Attorney-elect Nathan Hochman told NBC News.

Nathan Hochman, who is set to be sworn in on Dec. 2, said he will review how to proceed with the resentencing request filed by George Gascón. The I-Team’s Eric Leonard reports the NBC4 News on Nov. 6, 2024.

Los Angeles County’s next District Attorney said he’s been preparing for the role, meeting with the office’s prosecutors and studying the bureaucracy.
