Melissa Magee is a meteorologist at NBC4 and can be seen on weekday newscasts at 5 p.m., 7 p.m., and 11 p.m.
Magee brings up-to-the minute weather forecasts to the greater Southern California community. She grew up in Los Angeles and knows well the vast region’s microclimates to provide the most accurate reports to viewers.
Since joining NBC4 in 2020, Magee co-hosted the station’s “Celebrating Black Excellence,” a 30-minute special in honor of Black History Month. The program examined the evolution of the civil rights movement in Los Angeles, racial inequality in healthcare during Covid-19 and spotlighted athletes who have taken community advocacy roles in Southern California. In addition, Magee is often featured in NBC4’s public service announcements that help raise awareness of a number of causes in the region.
Prior to NBC4, Magee worked at WPVI-TV in Philadelphia for 11 years as a weekend meteorologist. While covering a wide spectrum of weather conditions, she guided viewers through extreme conditions. In 2009, she reported on the Nor’easter, the biggest storm that year. She also covered the impact of Superstorm Sandy and its devastation on Philadelphia, Delaware and New Jersey. Magee also demonstrated her journalistic versatility by hosting a variety of entertainment and lifestyle shows while at the station.
Magee’s news career started at ABC affiliate KDUH-TV in Nebraska as reporter and weekend evening anchor in 2001. She later joined KBAK-TV in Bakersfield, CA as a reporter, weekend anchor and weather anchor for four years. In 2006, she became a weather anchor at AccuWeather in State College, PA and in 2008 at the New York FOX affiliate WNYW-TV.
In addition to meteorology, Magee enjoys being active in the local community. She often volunteers at nonprofit organizations that foster confidence and success in young women living in under-served communities.
She is a graduate of UCLA with a B.A. degree in English and a minor in French; she is also fluent in French. She has her Broadcast Meteorology Certificate from Mississippi State University.
Magee lives in Los Angeles, and when she is not working she loves to work-out, hike, dance and is a self-proclaimed foodie.
