Right before the Dodgers played against the Giants on Saturday, the 2013 All Star Game rosters were revealed. No Dodgers position players were chosen by the fans to start, or manager Bruce Bochy as lineup reserves, but Bochy did pick Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw to join the All Star roster.
Kershaw was a no-brainer pick for the All-Star team, and is easily the standout of the season thus far for the Dodgers with his continual excellence and ability to stay healthy.
In the National League, he currently ranks first in: ERA, 1.83, opponent batting average, .189, and complete-game shutouts, and second in: strikeouts, 126, and WHIP 0.93.
Kershaw is completely worthy of starting the game, but the game is being played in New York at Citi Field, the home field of Matt Harvey, so he will probably get the start instead. Harvey is equally deserving of the start with fantastic numbers this season as well.
While there was a ton of buzz surrounding Yasiel Puig and the All Star Game, his campaign got too late of a start to get him on the roster. He did managed to get over 840,000 write-in votes though, the most write-in's since 2006.
Puig and fellow Dodger Adrian Gonzalez were both selected into the Final Vote. Another fan vote that picks one of five players from each league to get the last spot on the All Star Game roster.
The odds of Puig winning the Final Vote seem very high, especially after seeing how well his write-in campaign went over.
Puig and Gonzalez will go up against Ian Desmond, Freddie Freeman, and Hunter Pence. The Final Vote ends Thursday at 4 ET.
