Dragon Defeated. Phew. Time to Fete St. George!

Our shield is getting re-shielded, our suit of armor getting buffed, and our sword? It's totally under the pile of stuff next to the washing machine. We think. And even though our dragonslayer outfit isn't at the ready, we're ready to sip a cold, frothy, British beverage in honor of England's patron saint, St. George.

St. George's Day -- or April 23, if you have a calendar nearby -- certainly gets its due in London, with parades, fairs, and the occasional wayward dragon, done up in paper mache or felt (we're hoping real dragons are polite and stay in their caves during the celebrations). Here in Southern California, British expats and Anglophiles and dragon defeaters will likely gather at our most excellent selection of pubs; Ye Olde King's Head in Santa Monica, that happy land of football, darts, Scotch eggs, savory chutneys and thick lagers, is marking the occasion. 132 Santa Monica Boulevard, Santa Monica
