John Derian Designs Repetto Flat

Repetto, the classic Parisian dance shoe company that brought you the ballet slipper, tapped John Derian, the home decor designer known for his decoupage work, to design a special edition shoe which has just hit stores, WWD reports.

The traditional BB style, named after Brigitte Bardot, who first decided that ballet slippers didn't have to only be worn at the barre, will be getting a modern makeover with a bright floral print, interwoven with Derian's signature intricate scrolling patterns.

“After pairing with two cult brands like Rodarte and Opening Ceremony, John was the obvious choice,” Repetto's North American director, Michael Gallagher, told WWD.

We're not sure why he's so "obvious" considering the designer is actually known for home furnishings—last summer he joined forces with Target on a limited edition line of illustrated tabletop wares that debuted (and quickly sold out) on Gilt Groupe.

The limited edition ballet flat ($295) will be available at John Derian boutiques in New York City and Provincetown (the shop is tucked behind Derian's home on Commercial Street), as well as at Opening Ceremony N.Y. and L.A.
