Plywood Report: Cecconi's, Cacao Mexicatessen, MORE!

WEST HOLLYWOOD: For those who relish their memories of table-hopping and schmoozing at the old Morton's on Melrose and Robertson, let's hope you can hold it: By the looks of the gutted building seen above, there will be nothing left of it in the forthcoming Cecconi's. [PLYWOOD]

CENTURY CITY: Plywood for a new Italian restaurant called Toscanova covers a former (was it furniture?) store next to Houston's at the Westfield mall, across from RockSugar. We don't have too many deets on this one yet except that the same firm who did Bar Pintxo and Boule is designing it, and it's coming in 2009. [PLYWOOD]

EAGLE ROCK: A new cafe has created a new word: Mexicatessen. CaCao Mexicatessen signage says "opening soon" but from previous experience with new restaurants trying to open along that stretch of Colorado Boulevard, that could be months from now. With a name like CaCao we think chocolate, Mexican hot chocolate, but the website also says taqueria, cafe, catering and has a "tell us your best salsa recipe" contest. [POST-PLYWOOD]

HOLLYWOOD/HANCOCK PARK: Because we news of a Mozza retail and possible take-out counter news was so very exciting, a look at the exact location. That corner of Melrose and Highland is hereby renamed: the Mozza Compound. [PRE-PLYWOOD]
