Police Display Items Allegedly Stolen by LAX Baggage Handlers

Police on Saturday are displaying more than 280 items recovered when two baggage handlers were arrested for allegedly stealing the valuables from passengers' luggage at Los Angeles International Airport.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., theft victims can identify their property at the Los Angeles Police Department's Ahmanson Recruit Training Center, 5561 W. Manchester Ave., said LAPD Lt. Peter Whittingham.

The items include jewelry, laptop computers, digital cameras, cell phones, iPods and brand-name handbags.

On Oct. 30, police arrested two employees working in the baggage handling area of the airport, and a search of their homes turned up the stolen property. One suspect said the thefts had been going on for about a year.

Police believe the items were taken mostly from luggage checked for outgoing international flights, Whittingham said.

Anyone seeking information about the case should call Whittingham at 310-646-2255 and refer to case number 30783.
