A narcotics-sniffing canine Wednesday helped sheriff's investigators uncover drugs a suspect allegedly intended to smuggle into the Los Angeles County jail system.
After an extensive investigation, detectives with the Custody Investigative Services Jail Task Force served a search warrant at a suspect's home in the Los Angeles area, according to the sheriff's department.
Assisting in the search was K-9 Sherlock, who helped investigators locate over 50 grams of methamphetamine.
"The approximate jail value of the recovered narcotics was over $40,000," according to a sheriff's department statement. "The methamphetamine was uniquely packaged and ready for delivery into our custody facilities."
One person was arrested, according to the sheriff's department, which did not release the suspect's name due to the ongoing investigation.
This is the second time in a week Sherlock has aided deputies in foiling a plan to smuggle drugs into the Los Angeles County jails, authorities said.
