CINE-WOW: If you've ever toodled around lovely Coronado -- and we expect you have, at least while heading to the beach or heading out -- you've likely driven by the Village Theatre. Built in 1947, with interior murals by Disney's own Bill Anderson, the Village, with its big vertical sign, snazzy ticket booth, and swank Moderne touches certainly summoned a bygone era. But like many theaters built in a bygone era, it has needed some love in recent years, meaning some cash and renovations (well, straight-up love is important, too; no community undertaking does well without emotion and memory driving it, we suppose). Now the Village has gotten it; it is having a grand re-opening on Friday, June 24.
"IT": If you're wondering just what we meaning by the Village has gotten it, "it" means three million dollars over a decade. Mondo.
LA TIES: If you love the Los Feliz or Vista cinemas, then you'll want to know that Vintage Cinemas helped get the Village back looking shipshape again. And if you're headed to Coronado at all this summer, we're betting you'll now make time for a movie or two. The beach can wait for a couple of hours, yes? It'll still be there, which is one thing we do love about the beach. It's still-be-there-ness.
