DINOSAUR HALL: It's a fact that dinosaurs and cars didn't mix. We think? Time travel movies tell us otherwise, but we'll set those aside for the moment. If you find yourself not wanting to think about Carmageddon this weekend, and you find yourself near the Natural History Museum, make for the brand-new, 14,000-square-foot Dinosaur Hall. It's high-tech and downright epic. Roar! Opens Saturday, July 16
For everything you need to know during the 405 closure, visit the Carmageddon Toolkit.
FOOD FESTS: LA Street Food Fest pulls into the Rose Bowl on Saturday, July 16. Look for food trucks, yes, but also chefly chefs demo-ing and big-name judges judging. Tickets beforehand are the way to go. And Eat Real sets up the demos and delish, low-cost eats at Helms Bakery in Culver City on (it happens on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17). Sign us up for kraut-a-thon, please. Thank you.
OC FAIR OPENS: The month-long Costa Mesa party has lots of promotions, lots of fried treats (yep, the much-ballyhooed fried Kool-Aid will be sold), and a whole ton of concerts. Bob Dylan gets the rocking going on night one. Oh, and night one? Friday, July 15. The whole shebang wraps on Aug. 14. Squee and whee and such.
405 SUPPORT: One of the concerns of the mega freeway-closure on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17 is not about our schedules being disrupted, but about businesses close to the freeway feeling the brunt. If you're in the neighborhood, then, why not show the love? Santa Monica has a bunch of deals on, and the Hammer Museum will go gratis for two days.
IF YOU WANT MORE CARS THOUGH... Make for Glendale, where some 450 beauties'll be on display as part of a grand Cruise Night. Saturday, July 16
