DIXIE TO-DO: Practically every article ever that touches upon Thanksgiving weekend or recipes or tips suggests getting moving during the weekend. Oh, either with a long stroll or an impromptu family dance party. But how about several days of swinging Dixieland sounds? Now that is an ideal way to spend at least part of the holiday weekend. And you can do so in San Diego, when the Thanksgiving Dixieland Jazz Festival makes things very, very brassy.
31ST YEAR: Dixieland sounds have a lot of history in each note, so it makes perfect sense that this musical get-together is now over three decades along. Expect a bevy of bands making get-moving, get-celebrating music at the Town & Country Hotel and Convention Center from Nov. 24 through 28. Over 15 bands are slated to perform, and there are multiple dance floors. A daily badge will run $15-$40, depending on the day you plan to Dixie.
