One person died and at least two people were injured in a multi-car pileup on the 605 Freeway Sunday morning.
The California Highway Patrol responded around 2 a.m. to multiple calls from motorists describing a crash on the southbound 605 Freeway, south of Rose Hills Road, said Sgt. Saul Gomez of the California Highway Patrol Southern Division. When officers arrived, they determined that one person had died at the scene.
"For unknown reasons," two cars collided, which triggered a chain reaction of other vehicles crashing, most on the carpool and No. 1 lane, Gomez said. Two people were transported to the hospital for their injuries.
All southbound lanes were closed, but were set to reopen around 8 a.m., Gomez said.
Officers were still trying to determine the cause of the crash, and anyone with information was asked to call 323-982-4600.
