An apartment complex was evacuated after a brush fire broke out in Newport Beach, officials said.

The fire was reported at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 3000 block of Jamboree Road (map). Firefighters were able to get the flames under control about an hour later, officials said. It charred two to five acres.

No injuries or damage were immediately reported.

Jamboree Road was closed to traffic as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

Flames and smoke could be seen billowing above a Fletcher Jones Mercedes-Benz dealership, where employees and customers voluntarily evacuated.

A helicopter from the Orange County Fire Authority made a water drop over the dealership for protection, officials said.

Strong winds fanned multiple fires, downed power lines and felled trees, including one that smashed into a restroom at Irvine Regional Park, prompting authorities to close the park.
