Bythe Man Found Dead in Pickup Overturned in Ditch

A CHP statement said the man as a Blythe resident, but the coroner's office listed him as a resident of Mexico.

A 59-year-old man was found dead Wednesday after his Toyota Tacoma pickup overturned into a drainage ditch, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Salvador Jimenez Ortega was found by Riverside County Sheriff's deputies responding to a missing persons report at about 2:56 p.m. near the area of Rannells Boulevard and 32nd Avenue in Ripley, said CHP Officer Jason Girard, who added it was unclear whether he died due to the crash or prior medical circumstances.

A CHP statement said Ortega was a Blythe resident, but the coroner's office listed him as a resident of Mexicali, Mexico.

According to the CHP, Jimenez's truck veered off the road and crossed over a dirt shoulder where it then traveled down a steep embankment and rammed into a patch of brush, causing his pickup to overturn into a drainage ditch.

Despite wearing his seatbelt, Ortega suffered fatal injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
