Firefighters Monitor “Combustible Sawdust” After Lumber Yard Fire

A fire broke out in Pacoima after 8 p.m.

A massive cleanup effort awaits after a fire burned through two neighboring Pacoima lumber yards. Arson investigators are looking in to what may have caused the blaze. Jacob Rascon reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.

Firefighters remained at the site of a lumber yard fire early Friday in the northeast San Fernando Valley to monitor an unstable silo filled with what fire officials described as "highly combustible sawdust."

The fire was reported at 8:10 p.m. Thursday at SB Lumber and HB Redwood in the 11000 block of Sutter Avenue in Pacoima. Nobody was hurt and there were no evacuations, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

A commuter train line was temporarily shut down Thursday night. Metrolink's Antelope Valley Line 223 to Lancaster was delayed near Sylmar/San Fernando, Metrolink Tweeted.

Officials provided alternate transportation between Sun Valley and Lancaster.

It took more than 100 firefighters to douse the blaze. The cause was under investigation.
