Looking for a cheap, hassle-free way to beat the heat?
Try the $1 Beach Bus that's offering trips now between inland parts of Los Angeles County and the Santa Monica Pier.
"This is a great opportunity for people of all ages to travel in air-conditioned, wheel-chair accessible buses and spend time at the beach during the hot summer months," said Mary Reyes of the Los Angeles County Public Works, which oversees the program.
The buses run three times a day, typically from 9:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. To see a complete schedule and route, click here. The buses get packed, so it's first come first served or you can make a reservation. The buses are 50 cents for seniors 60 years and older and those with disabilities. The bus service runs through Sept. 2.
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Sheila Kuehl said that the bus is a great way to avoid the hassle and additional parking fees.
"It's fast, convenient, and inexpensive," Kuehl said in an email.
