Two new studies are showing that acupuncture significantly reduces the severity and frequency of hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause.
Loretta Elias goes to Dr. Lawrence Taw at the UCLA Center for East West Medicine because her hot flashes were getting too hard to handle.
"I had hot flashes 10 to 15 times a day. It was uncomfortable at work, and at night, it caused insomnia," Elias said.
Prescription hormones could treat those symptoms but studies shave shown they may also increase the risk of heart disease and cancer for certain women.
Now there's evidence that acupuncture alone can do the same thing without the side effects.
