40,000 Illegal Marijuana Plants Found in Riverside

Authorities say they seized 40,000 marijuana plants at an illegal pot farm east of Los Angeles.

The Riverside Police Department says a tip regarding the strong odor of marijuana coming from a home sent them to a house that turned out to have a private nursery about the size of a city block.

Detectives armed with a search warrant entered the property on Thursday.

Authorities say they found enough plants to make about 10 tons of pot with an estimated street value of $20 million.

Investigators destroyed most of the pot and seized a tractor, forklift and other vehicles.

Authorities say they also found several makeshift dwellings on the property along with thousands of pounds of fertilizer and hundreds of gallons of pesticides.

No arrests have been made.
