An SUV carrying a family veered off a road and into a utility pole, killing a baby and injuring four others in Orange County on Monday, police said.

The infant was pronounced dead at the scene, while the family's father, mother and two other children were taken to a hospital, according to Lt. Eric Point of the Placentia Police Department.

The collision occurred in the 700 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue in Placentia at 10:10 a.m. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Point said.

Firefighters cut through the vehicle, a Chevrolet Suburban, to reach the infant, Point said. The SUV rolled over after striking the power lines, and its roof was crushed. The infant was in a car seat.
