Off-Duty Officer Assaulted, Suspect Shot in North Hills

An off-duty police officer was assaulted and the attacker was shot early Wednesday in North Hills.

The Los Angeles Police Department officer made an "officer needs help" call at approximately 1:15 a.m. near Nordhoff Street and Orion Avenue, according to the LAPD Mission Division.

The officer was hit with a baseball bat then transported to a hospital in stable condition. The attacker was also taken to a hospital in stable condition after he was shot in the stomach.

Details on what led up to the assault were not immediately clear.
