Police are investigating a deadly road rage shooting that left at least one person dead along the 5 Freeway, prompting the northbound lanes to be closed for hours Thursday afternoon. Amber Frias reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Oct. 10, 2024.

All lanes of the 5 Freeway have reopened following a shooting in Boyle Heights that left one person dead and one other injured on Thursday.

Police are looking for two men they say are responsible for killing one person and injuring another in a deadly road rage shooting on the 5 Freeway in Boyle Heights.

The shooting happened at around 4:17 p.m. along the 5 Freeway near the Grande Vista exit, paralyzing the freeway lanes for hours Thursday evening.

Drivers of a gold Cadillac and Dodge Durango were involved in an altercation that resulted in the shooting.

“The gold Cadillac rear-ended an uninvolved vehicle. At which point, the occupants of the Dodge Durango became excited and started firing upon the occupants of the gold Cadillac," said Lieutenant Bob Purvis with the CHP.

Several other vehicles were hit by gunfire apart from those involved, none of those people were injured.

Purvis says the gold Cadillac then made a U-turn on the freeway, driving against traffic and hitting several other cars before coming to a stop.

The two men inside the Durango got away, according to CHP.

Neighbors in the area were shaken up by the tragedy on one of the busiest freeway interchanges in the country.

"It’s concerning because some of us are just trying to get home and no one knows what could happen," said Aaria Arana who lives in the area.

A Sigalert was issued in the area as traffic was backed up to the 710 Freeway and northbound lanes remained closed as the investigation continued.
