All lanes of the 5 Freeway reopened following an hours-long investigation into a shooting Thursday on the freeway in Boyle Heights that left one person dead and one other injured.

Police are looking for two men they say are responsible for killing one person and injuring another in the deadly road rage shooting in the community east of downtown LA. The shooting happened at around 4:17 p.m. along the 5 Freeway near the Grande Vista exit, paralyzing the freeway lanes for hours Thursday evening.

Drivers of a gold Cadillac and Dodge Durango were involved in an altercation that resulted in the shooting.

"The involved vehicles were seen chasing each other, prior to the Cadillac rear-ending an uninvolved vehicle," the CHP said in a statement.

The occupants of a Dodger Durango fired upon the occupants of the gold Cadillac, said Lt. Bob Purvis with the CHP. Several other vehicles were hit by gunfire apart from those involved, none of those people were injured.

Purvis said the gold Cadillac then made a U-turn on the freeway, driving against traffic and hitting several other cars before coming to a stop. Both people in the Cadillac suffered gunshot wounds. One of them, identified as a man in his 20s, died at the scene. The other was hospitalized.

The two men inside the Durango got away, according to CHP.

Neighbors in the area were shaken up by the tragedy on one of the busiest freeway interchanges in the country.

"It’s concerning because some of us are just trying to get home and no one knows what could happen," said Aaria Arana who lives in the area.

A Sigalert was issued in the area as traffic was backed up to the 710 Freeway and northbound lanes remained closed as the investigation continued.
