A naked man on a high school football field was taken into custody Thursday night in connection with the death of his 15-year-old brother at a nearby residence in Newbury Park, police said.

Officers responded to a call around 8:03 p.m. PT in the 400 block of Jeanne Court.

A teenager in the home had suffered blunt force trauma -- some type of blow during an assault -- to the head, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department. Details about whether a weapon was used were not immediately available.

The 15-year-old boy later died at a hospital

Family members said Friday that the suspected attacker and victim are brothers. Details about what led to the deadly chain of events were not immediately available.

The family of 15-year-old Zayde Keohohou, who was killed by his half brother in Newbury Park, spoke out following the tragic death of the teenager they say was bound to a wheelchair. Darsha Philips reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Dec. 6, 2024.

The suspect, identified Friday by the sheriff's department as 24-year-old Zuberi Sharp, was naked at the time of his arrest on the Newbury Park High School football field.

Hundreds of students were on campus and a scrimmage game was taking place on the field around the time of the arrest. The school campus was put on a soft lockdown.

A neighbor said he was at a dance recital on the campus with his family.

"We were in the performance and all of the sudden there's going to be a delay in the performance because they're on a lockdown," said William Garcia. "All we thought is that there's a streaker on the campus."

Sharp was arrested on suspicion of murder and held without bail. Arraignment is scheduled for Monday. It was not immediately clear whether he has an attorney.

The county district attorney's office confirmed the suspect is the son of Calvin Sharp, 45, who was convicted in the August 2007 stabbing death of a 6-year-old child. A meat cleaver was used to kill the child before Calvin Sharp stabbed the boy's mother and a neighbor, according to prosecutors.

Both women survived.

Calvin Sharp tried to plead insanity, but was later found legally sane. He was sentenced to life in prison with parole in December 2012. He remains in custody at California State Prison, Sacramento, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Anyone with information about the Thursday assault was asked to call investigators at 805-384-4725.
