Passenger Killed in Suspected DUI Crash in Pomona

Driver arrested on suspicion of DUI causing death and manslaughter

A 19-year-old Upland woman was killed Sunday when the allegedly drunken driver of the vehicle she was riding in lost control of the car, smashed it into several parked vehicles and rolled it over.

Three other passengers -- 18-year-old Frank Camacho of Ontario, 19-year-old Ernie Vega of Upland, and 23-year-old Gabriel Venegas of Ontario -- were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI, was also injured and expected to survive. She was identified as 20-year-old Raelene Martinez of Ontario.

The identity of the woman killed in the collision was not released.

The crash happened Sunday at 1:38 a.m. near the 1500 block of N. San Antonio Avenue (map) in Pomona. Martinez was traveling northbound with four passengers in a 1995 Toyota Camry when she lost control.

"Her vehicle struck several parked cars and rolled over," Sgt. Christian Hsu of the Pomona Police Department wrote in a news release. "Evidence at the collision led officers to suspect Martinez was under the influence of alcohol while driving."

She was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing death and manslaughter, according to police.
