An exterminator worked for a second day on Thursday to rid a Redondo Beach apartment building of bees after hundreds of them attacked a 95-year-old man there on Wednesday.

"When the fire department got here he was covered in bees, and they started to brush them off. The bees attacked the fire department too," according to Sgt. Phil Keenan, Redondo Beach Police Dept.
Louis Todero, 95, was stung up to 600 times as he walked near his home on Ruxton Lane in Redondo Beach.
The swarm had become agitated by an exterminator trying to get the nest out of an apartment building.
Police said experts told them they suspect the bees are Africanized and much more aggressive than honey bees, because they chased Todero down the street in a fierce attempt to save their hive.
Paramedics stopped counting after they pulled about 400 stingers from Todero’s body and face, police said.
Todero’s daughter said he's back home from the hospital, but in a lot of pain.
"Half of his face was swollen up, and the other half was going down. He had bites all through, on the back of his neck and on his arms," according to Louise Todero.
Thursday afternoon, an exterminator dropped poison through a hole drilled in the roof and sealed off the hive. He will return in a few days to remove the hive after all the bees are dead.
Todero is recovering at his home across the street, with a little help from his family.
"One of his little great grandsons is making him a bee trap so they won't get him anymore. He got a big chuckle out of that."
