A 2-year-old boy was struck by a car and killed outside an elementary school Wednesday, authorities said.
The boy was walking with his mother after dropping off his sibling – a kindergarten student – at Ansgar Larsen Elementary School in Oxnard, the school’s superintendent Dr. Jerry Dannenberg said.
The toddler’s mother was walking with the boy and stopped to talk to someone in the parking when a substitute teacher driving in struck the child, Dannenberg said.
A spokesman with the Oxnard Police Department said the tragic incident “looks like it was a complete unintended accident” and there are “no criminal elements” at play.
