Carrying a tune?
Some of us can, through singing. Others are able to, when they're playing an instrument they've mastered.
And a few special people?
They can make music from self-created wind, and the muscles in their mouth, and the ability to turn both of those things, in crafty combination, into highly listen-able magic.
It's musical whistling we're whistling about here, that not-so-easy ability to, yes, create a recognizable song from what might be called well-managed blowing.
If you're an especially wonderful well-managed blower, best purse your lips and look into auditioning for The Masters of Musical Whistling International Festival and Competition, which'll celebrate several whistling stars, and rising newcomers, at the Pasadena Convention Center on Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24.

As for what competition categories to expect?
There are five in all, including Live Band Accompaniment, Pre-Recorded Accompaniment Classic, Pre-Recorded Accompaniment Popular, Self-Accompaniment, and Allied Arts (yep, you'll be performing in a duo).
As for what you can expect of the two-day festival?
Oh yeah, Whistling School is on the schedule, and a Whistling Mixer, and a Concert of the Masters, too, if you're looking for inspiration.
Don't blow by all of the details too fast, for you'll need to audition first if you hope to compete. So do delve into all, much in the way you listen closely to every note of a song as you polish whistling along.
Are you thinking of whistling all of "Bohemian Rhapsody"? Or "Stairway to Heaven"? Accomplished musical whistlers out there can perform such feats, and beyond.
Back these superstar song-whistlers in Pasadena in late August, and perhaps begin your own musical whistling career.
