What to Know
- The It Experience Chapter Two at Hollywood and Vine
- Aug. 15-Sept. 8, 2 to 11 p.m.
- Reservations open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31
There was a day, long ago in the past, when seeing a single red balloon or a yellow rain slicker didn't immediately fill one with dread.
Or, more curiously, a growing sense that a clown may be in the immediate vicinity.
But nowadays? Those two iconic sights have a lot of people quickly glancing around for the nearest storm drain (one that is, fingers crossed, free of any paper boats).
The fearful fact is this: Pennywise, the smiling, wide-eyed, sewer-favoring jester at the lead of the Stephen King "It" stories has unicycled his laughing way into our most macabre nightmares, and we instantly invite him into our psyche each time we spy a red balloon or yellow slicker or paper boat.
And, from Aug. 15 through Sept. 8, he'll also enter our eeriest ether via the all-new It Experience: Chapter Two, which will deliver the merry Derry thrills to the corner of Hollywood and Vine (much like the first "It" experience, which popped up in conjunction with the release of 2017's "It").
It's free, too.
The Scene
Want to find new things to do in Los Angeles? The Scene's lifestyle stories have you covered. Here's your go-to source on where the fun is across SoCal and for the weekend.
The theme of this current visitation? Hang onto your slicker: It's the "The Derry Canal Days Festival and Funhouse Featuring Pennywise the Dancing Clown."
"We're not at all scared to run right in the direction of that happy fun totally unfrightening good time," we fibbed through a clenched smile.
No fibbing, though: It's sure to be chilling and thrilling for horror fans, full of small-town charms and clown-style alarms. We're in.
Are you ready?
And are you ready for "It Chapter Two," which opens wide on Sept. 6?
"Opens wide" sounds like something Pennywise's big, big smile might do, when you're least expecting it.
So let's leave on that harrowing and haunting image, as you contemplate when you'll visit this new experience and what "It" aficionado you'll have at your side.
Call your friend now and ask them if they'll go with you. Or better yet, walk over to your friend's house, to invite them in person.
Just steer clear of any storm drains along the way.
Reservations for the newest "It" experience open at 9 in the morning on July 31.
