Turned Down by Kate Upton, Teen Has “Surreal” Prom Date With Supermodel

His YouTube request to Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton didn't work out, but 17-year-old Jake Davidson still found a date for his high school prom

The Southern California high school student whose high hopes of taking Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton to his prom were dashed by a scheduling conflict ended up with another date -- Danish supermodel Nina Agdal.

Agdal, well known for eating a charbroiled cod fish sandwich on the beach in a Carl's Jr./Hardee's commercial, and 17-year-old Jake Davidson -- best known for a two-minute YouTube video in which he asked Upton (she also stars in a Carl's Jr. ad) to prom -- went to the Milken Community High School prom together Thursday night at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica.

"It was a surreal experience," Davidson said Friday morning. "I'm so grateful her people reached out -- a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

Davidson attracted the attention of his first choice, Upton, with a YouTube video in which he reasoned, "You’re on the cover of Sports Illustrated. I read Sports Illustrated," making her the "ying to my yang." His compelling request to the swimsuit model has 2.6 million views.

Upton retweeted Jake’s video and said she’d check if she’s free."How could I turn down that video!" she wrote.

A TODAY Show encounter seemed promising, but Davidson said "Kate's people" later contacted him to explain she was working on a movie and would not be available on prom night.

The disappointment lasted about as long as it took to type a Google search for "Nina Agdal."

"When I Googled Nina Agdal for the first time, I recognized her immediately as the Carl's Jr. Sports Illustrated girl and, I mean, she's pretty beautiful," Davidson said.

Agdal, wearing a green gown, arrived at the Davidsons' Sherman Oaks home Thursday afternoon in a limousine. The 5-foot-9 Davidson, in a charcoal colored tuxedo, immediately noticed a height disparity as they exchanged a boutonniere and wrist corsage

"She's 5-9 without heels, and she was wearing some pretty big heels, but I think we rocked it well," Davidson said. "We had a bunch of stuff in common. We talked about her modeling, traveling, where she's lived."

Davidson said the night ended with a hug before he "sent her on her way."

"I told her anytime she's in LA she can look me up and we can go out to dinner," Davidson said.

The night was documented in the video below. The Upton request video and Thursday night's prom were created by photographer Talia Myers, a friend of Davidson's.

"It's been a pleasure -- my one and only prom," Agdal said.

Agdal posted an Instagram and tweeted: "Had such a great prom night. Thank you jakedavidson23 for being an awesome date!"

Davidson replied: "@NinaAgdal you are the best! thanks so much for everything."
