A Delta Charter flight from Kansas City with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim baseball team aboard made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International (LAX) Airport Wednesday night.
The team was originally bound for John Wayne Airport but diverted to LAX for "precautionary hydraulic reasons," Angels vice president of communications Tim Mead told NBC LA. The team was returning from a 2-0 loss to the Kansas City Royals earlier today.
No one was hurt in the landing.
The Boeing 737 reported hydraulic problems and landed safely about 9 p.m., Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration told the Los Angeles Times.
Emergency crews were on scene for precaution, CBS2 reported.
A charter bus took the team back to Angel Stadium in Anaheim where it arrived about 10:15 pm, CBS2 reported.
"Much ado about nothing really," Angels manager Mike Scioscia told KCAL9. "I guess there was a little hydraulic problem on the plane but the landing was smooth and we just got diverted to
LAX.
''We're on our way to Angel Stadium right now so everything's OK," he added.
Scioscia added that this was hardly a routine flight, and took him by surprise. "We fly so much and everything's usually routine and no issues anywhere, every three or four days we're on a plane," Scioscia said.
Angels first baseman Russell Branyan said that the pilot did an outstanding job. "These guys, they fly us all over the country, not enough can be said for them,'' Branyan said.
Pitcher Rick Thompson tweeted "Glad to be on the ground save, pilot did a he'll of a job bringing the bird down!"
