Series of Gunshot Blasts at Cars Prompts Manhunt in Carson Area

One woman was wounded by gunfire. The other four shootings hit cars in the Carson and Torrance areas.

A 21-year-old man from Placentia suffered moderate injuries after a car-to-car shooting on the 110 Freeway near Carson Thursday, April 26. So far, only two people have come forward with information about the shooting. John Klemack reports from Carson for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on April 27, 2012.

At least five shotgun shootings over eight days at cars and in which one person was wounded in the Carson-Torrance area may be the work of one person or a group, deputies said Saturday.

Officials were seeking the public’s help in solving them.

The shootings occurred between April 18 and April 26.

In one shooting, a 27-year-old woman was shot in the arm while she was walking in a commercial area.

In other incidents, bullets hit moving cars.

  • The first incident occurred on Wednesday, April 18 at 2:15 p.m. near the 21300 block of Main Street in the city of Carson. The victim, a female white adult, was walking on Main Street when she was shot in the arm.
  • The second incident occurred on Monday, April 23 at 8:30 p.m. near Normandie Avenue and Torrance Boulevard in the unincorporated area of Torrance. The victim, a female Hispanic adult, was driving south on Normandie Avenue when her vehicle was struck by gunfire.
  • The third incident occurred on Thursday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Figueroa Street and Lomita Boulevard in the city of Carson. The victim, a male Asian adult, was driving on Figueroa Street when his vehicle was struck by gunfire.
  • The fourth incident, which is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, occurred on Tuesday, April 24 at 8 p.m. on the 110 Freeway near the Carson Street exit.
  • The fifth incident, also being investigated by the California Highway Patrol, occurred on Thursday, April 26 at 2:45 p.m. on the 110 Freeway near Torrance Boulevard.

Police had no suspect description available. No clear motive has been established.
