Bomb Threat Email Leads to Evacuation at Huntington Beach High School

Edison High School's principal received an email that claimed there was a bomb in the school library and a hallway

Students were evacuated at a Huntington Beach high school Monday as authorities investigated an email that claimed there were bombs in the school's library and a hallway.

The anonymous email was received by Edison High School's principal at about 8:30 a.m. Students were evacuated to a recreational field at the school.

Authorities told NBC4 they determined there was no threat to the students after bomb sniffing dogs searched the campus.

"When district officials received the email this morning during school hours, we immediately implemented our emergency response plan and contacted the Huntington Beach Police Department," Superintendent Gregory Plutko said in a statement. "Our telephone and email notification systems alerted parents and staff to the situation. In an abundance of caution, classes at Edison High School were evacuated to the athletic fields to allow HBPD and OC Sheriff staff an opportunity to search the facility."

It was not immediately clear when students would be allowed to return to the building.

Police plan to have a "heightened presence" Tuesday at the campus.
