Brush Fire Quickly Knocked Down in Palmdale Area

Smoke from the fire was visible from several miles away, but authorities said no structures had been threatened

About 115 firefighters knocked down a brush fire in the southwest area of Palmdale on Tuesday afternoon in about one hour.

Smoke from the blaze was visible from several miles away, and aerial video showed a large blackened patch of land.

It was estimated at about 20 acres. Winds were up to 20 mph, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Tony Imbrenda.

Aerial video showed the blaze has blackened brush near some buildings in a residential area, but no structures had been in danger, Imbrenda said. A bulldozer was seen carving a break around the edge of the fire.

The blaze was first reported at 4:07 p.m., he said.

The site of the blaze was reported as Avenue S and Tierra Subida Avenue (map) near the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, Imbrenda said.

From aerial video, it appeared to be west of Tovey Avenue at West Avenue S (map).

Two county helicopters were on scene, and a Los Angeles Fire Department chopper had been headed to the blaze, Imprenda said just before 4:30 p.m.

The address given for the blaze is about 2 miles east of a dramatic nighttime fire that burned some 200 acres of rugged hillsides on July 3.
