Two men were killed on the same street in Carson shooting

Police found two men dead from gunshot wounds in Carson Saturday night a block away from each other, authorities believe both shootings are connected. Karma Dickerson reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on Aug. 25, 2024.

Authorities are investigating after two men were shot to death in the same general area in Carson late Saturday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was informed of the shootings around 11:30 p.m. and responded to the 100 block of 234th Street.

One of the victims was able to drive off but ended up crashing his vehicle just a block away east of 234th Street, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators tell NBC4 they believe the shootings are related, potentially involving members of rival gangs.

One of the victims has been identified as 44-year-old Richard Mata, according to family members. The other victim who was 18, has not been disclosed.

Sheriff's investigators detained one person who they believe was there at the time of the shooting.
