A 12-year-old boy died Saturday at a water park in Irvine after he experienced a medical emergency, according to police.
The Orange County Fire Authority responded shortly after 11 a.m. to Wild Rivers Waterpark for a medical aid call, the Irvine Police Department said. There, a 12-year-old boy experienced a "non-water, but medical related incident outside (a) pool," Wild Rivers Waterpark said in a social media post.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and later died.
It is unclear what the boy died of. Authorities did not disclose the nature of the medical aid call.

The name of the boy who died was not released.
In a statement, Wild Rivers said it was "deeply" saddened by the death.
"Our hearts go out to the boy's family and loved ones during this difficult time," the water park's post said. "We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers."
