Car Crashes Into Check-Cashing Business

One motorist said he ran from the scene because he had a plane to catch, officers said

One driver was injured and a second motorist was arrested after he fled the scene of a crash in South Los Angeles that left one vehicle inside a check-cashing business.

The crash at the intersection of South La Brea Avenue and West Adams  Boulevard happened at  about 11:55 p.m. on Thursday, said Los Angeles police  Sgt. Norma Vargas, watch commander at South Traffic Division.

"A Nissan that was heading south on La Brea ran the red light and hit a silver Chevrolet Impala that was going westbound on Adams,'' Vargas said. "The force of the impact pushed the Impala through the front window of  the PLS Check Cashing business at the corner of La Brea and Adams.''

No one in the check-cashing business was injured.

"I'm bobbing and weaving, just trying to get out of the way,"  said Reggie Hendricks, who was in the business when the car crashed through the front.

Paramedics had to use an extraction device to free the unidentified  woman who was driving the Impala, Vargas said.

"She suffered bruising and lacerations to the face in the accident and  was transported by paramedics to the hospital for treatment of her injuries," Vargas said.

The driver of the Nissan who ran the red light and caused the crash got  out of his car and fled the scene, said Vargas.

"Officers caught up to him about four blocks from the scene and  arrested him for felony hit and run,'' said Vargas. "He told officers he ran  from the scene because he had a plane to catch and was running late, but that  excuse didn't fly.''

Vargas said the driver has now been booked on the hit and run charges  but the only information she had for him so far was his last name - Fletcher.

He is being held at 77th Division and could be arraigned Friday, Vargas  said.
