Volunteers and more than 300 pets played and cuddled through the night at the Downey Animal Care Shelter in its first-ever "Sleepover at the Shelter" adoption event this weekend.
Pets were stationed at three play yards on Saturday, where volunteers played with them and kept them company as visitors stopped by. The shelter was hoping to get more than 100 pets adopted by Saturday, lowering adoption fees and offering goody bags for adopters, food trucks and face painters.
"I promise you, you will fall in love. There's so many great pets here," event co-host Steven Latham said.
Many volunteers spent Friday night at the shelter and the event continued into Saturday, as they played with pets looking for a permanent home.
All of proceeds will go toward providing free spay and neuter surgeries for pets living in underserved communities, the event's founders said. The adoption event runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
