Driver Killed in Fiery Big Rig Crash on 710 Freeway

A SigAlert has been issued for the two right lines of the northbound 710 Freeway.

A big rig driver was killed Friday morning in a crash on the 710 Freeway. Mekahlo Medina reports for Today in LA on Friday Aug. 1, 2014.

The driver of a big rig was killed after the truck crashed off the side of the 710 Freeway Friday morning and burst into flames in a ravine. 

The crash occurred just before 1:30 a.m. on the northbound 710 Freeway just south of Imperial Hwy., the California Highway Patrol said.

"All of a sudden it just blows up," witness Irving Picheco said. "I did not see anyone come out of it."

A SigAlert was issued for the two right lines of the northbound 710 Freeway.

According to officials, the driver, who has only been identified as a female, was driving from the Port of Los Angeles and was carrying a load of Gatorade.

Details regarding the cause of the crash were not immediately available.
