A man, who was killed after a suspected DUI driver rear-ended his sedan, pushing the car into an intersection where it caught fire, was identified Saturday by the Orange County Coroner's Office.
Steven Okamura, 50, of Orange died Thursday in the crash at Chapman Avenue and Yorba Street.
A 32-year-old woman was accused of driving under the influence when her black Toyota Camry struck Okamura's Chevrolet Cruze stopped at a red light.
The force of the suspected high speed wreck sent Okamura's car into the intersection where it caught fire. Witnesses said they tried to help, but to no avail.
"I tried to open the door, but it was too late," said the witness, who asked not to be identified. "It was just really sad. We couldn't do anything."
The suspected driver, 32-year-old Stephanie Derosas, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter, according to police. She remained hospitalized Friday afternoon, but details regarding her injuries were not available.
Flowers were left at the intersection, along with a posted that read: "We love you Steve. You will forever be missed."
