The driver in a high-speed chase that began in Glendora and ended in South Los Angeles is in custody while police continue to search for three additional suspects Friday.
The near 30-minute pursuit in which no one was injured began at 9:38 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of West Foothill Boulevard in Glendora, where an officer responded to a theft at a grocery store, according to Sgt. Shelly Gold of the Glendora Police Department.
The officer recognized the vehicle, a black Mercedes-Benz, as the one described by the reporting party and attempted a traffic stop but when the occupants didn't comply, a chase ensued, Gold said.
The suspect's vehicle entered the Foothill (210) Freeway, at which time officers requested assistance from the California Highway Patrol, Gold said.
The suspects threw alcohol bottles out of the windows of the vehicle, which struck the Glendora police patrol car, according to Gold.
CHP officers joined in the chase as the suspects drove westbound on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway near downtown Los Angeles, according to CHP Officer Tony Polizzi said.
The chase ended just after 10:05 p.m. near the intersection of South Broadway and 43rd Place, where the Mercedes-Benz struck a wall. All of the vehicle's occupants then fled on foot, Gold said. The driver of the vehicle was caught soon after.
