Pursuit Driver Runs Inside Home, Residents Evacuated

Officers surrounded a house, believed to be where the man was hiding, in the 12500 block of Memphis Avenue in Sylmar.

After leading police on a car chase, a man ran on foot into a residential neighborhood in Sylmar, forcing the evacuation of some residents. Conan Nolan reports for the NBC4 News at 5 p.m. on June 25, 2015.

A motorist in a possibly stolen vehicle led police on a brief chase in the Sylmar area Thursday and then ran into a neighborhood, where he was later caught.

The pursuit began about 11:50 a.m. near Nurmi Street and Herrick Avenue and led to the 12000 block of Memphis Avenue, about a mile away, where the suspect got out of the still-moving vehicle and ran off, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man ran into a home, prompting shouts from the occupants. Several people were escorted out of the residence by police. Officers entered the home and failed to locate the suspect.

Some neighboring homes were evacuated, according to reports from the scene.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken into custody about 2:30 p.m., according to the LAPD.
