The driver of a white Honda sedan led officers on a high-speed pursuit Friday afternoon before ditching the car and taking off on foot in Hacienda Heights.
Sheriff's deputies eventually found the man hiding in some bushes in a residential area near the top of Turnbull Canyon. The driver jumped out of the car while it was still moving, sending it into a small embankment.
The car was suspected of being stolen.
During the chase, the driver was traveling on the 605 Freeway, surface streets and through alleyways, at one point clipping what appeared to be an armored truck and careening onto the sidewalk before reversing and continuing to flee.
Officers stopped following on the ground, but continued overhead in a helicopter.
The passenger-side airbag appeared to be inflated. A woman passenger got out of the car during the chase, and was detained.
The Honda struck at least one other car and did not stop for traffic lights and frequently drove on the wrong side of the road.
