Police officers in South Los Angeles are searching for a group of possible teens wanted in connection with the shooting of six people on Wednesday.

The shooting was reported at 3:13 p.m. near the intersection of 74th and Figueroa Streets, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. There, four women ages 40 to 55, and another woman whose age was not specified, were shot by up to three males in a car that pulled up to them. A male victim, age 36, was also injured in the shooting.

All victims sustained gunshot wounds primarily to their lower extremities and are in stable condition, according to police.

LAPD does not believe the victims were the intended target of the shooters.

“Unfortunately they got caught in the crossfire and unfortunately, they were hit," said LAPD Detective Dean Vinluan.

One woman was critically injured and the others were hurt with less serious wounds. Several ambulances were called to the scene to tend to the victims.

Police said up to three people believed to be connected to the shooting fled the scene in a car. Police believe those individuals may be teenagers.
