Gas Prices in SoCal Continue to Drop

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped a half-cent today to $3.585, its lowest amount since Dec. 27.

The average price has decreased 29 consecutive days and 64 of the past 65, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 3.8 cents less than one week ago, 20.9 cents lower than one month ago and 24 cents below one year ago.

The Orange County average price dropped eight-tenths of a cent today to $3.558, its lowest amount since Dec. 27. It has also decreased 64 of the past 65 days and is 3.7 cents less than one week ago, 19.5 cents lower than one month ago and 22.5 cents below one year ago.

The dropping pump prices are the result of lower wholesale prices and the Nov. 1 switch to winter blend gasoline, which costs less to produce, according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.
