Glendora police shot and wounded a suspect during an armed robbery call. Hetty Chang reports for the NBC4 News on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019.

A man was wounded Friday in an officer-involved shooting as police responded to an armed robbery at a jewelry store in Glendora.

Officers responded about 12:15 p.m. to a call of an armed takeover robbery at a jewelry store in the 700 block of West Route 66, according to Glendora Police Department Cpl. Zach Houser.

"Responding officers arrived and detained a female in a waiting vehicle; she was later arrested,'' according to a statement from police. "The area was contained as officers began searching for two suspects ... (who) witnesses described as being armed with handguns. One suspect was located in the area of Route 66 and Forestdale Avenue and an officer-involved shooting occurred.''

The man was taken to a hospital. That individual's name, age and condition were not immediately available.

Officers were continuing to search for the second man involved, described as being thin with short dreadlocks. His head was shaved on the sides and he was wearing a black hoodie or white shirt and blue jeans.

The robbery occurred at Lamas Jewelry, formerly known as Jewelry Mine.

Nearby Stanton Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to the Glendora Unified School District. Students were being taken by bus to a parking lot on the south side of Citrus College Stadium to be reunited with parents and guardians.

Azusa Pacific University's Office of University Relations was also locked down, with staff told the shelter in place.
