An armed man has died after a confrontation with deputies at an Upland home that caught fire during an hours-long standoff.
The standoff began when deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department attempted to serve a search warrant at about 3:15 p.m. on a home on Fairwood Way. The man barricaded himself inside the home for six hours and opened fire on deputies from inside the residence, authorities said.
The man emerged from the house after a fire started inside the residence. Deputies opened fire on the man outside the house, the sheriff's department said.
"After several hours of attempting to negotiate with the man and have him exit a fire erupted inside the house," the agency said in a statement. "The man exited the house and a lethal force encounter occurred. The man was pronounced deceased."
