Tropical storm Hilary prompts closures, cancellations in LA

The list below will be updated with more events as they are canceled or postponed.

As Southern California prepares for tropical storm Hilary which has threatened to deliver rain, flash flooding and strong winds to the Los Angeles area, several events have also been canceled or postponed. Some closures have also been announced through Monday Aug. 21.

Take a look at some of this weekend's events that have been affected:

Theme Parks

Knott's Berry Farm and Knott's Soak City were closed Sunday.

Disneyland will close at 10 p.m. and California Adventure at 9 p.m. Sunday, but park officials were "closely monitoring Hurricane Hilary and making adjustments based on the latest information from the National Weather Service."

Universal Studios and Universal CityWalk remained open Sunday, but officials said they were also closely monitoring events and would announce any changes.

SoCal greeting first day of fall with warming trend

Passenger, horse dead following crash on Norco freeway

Both the Greek Theater and the Hollywood Bowl have postponed concerts due to Tropical Storm Hilary.

The Greek Theater's Michael Franti and Spearhead show scheduled for Sunday has been postponed to September 15.

The Morning Jacket show at the Hollywood Bowl was also postponed to Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday's show at the Levitt Pavillion, set to feature Sara Curruchich, DJ Boris and Los Chapincitos Los Angeles, has canceled their show.

LA Zoo

The Los Angeles Zoo announced it will be closed Sunday and Monday because of the storm.

State Beaches

Orange County Board of Supervisor Katrina Foley announced state beach campgrounds will be closed Sunday due to the storm. That includes:

  • Bolsa Chica State Beach
  • Huntington State Beach
  • Crystal Cove State Park (Including Historic District Cottages)
  • Doheny State Beach
  • San Clemente State Beach
  • San Onofre State Beach

LA Parks

LA County Parks system closes due to Hurricane Hilary

The County of LA Parks system announced that they will be closed Sunday and Monday out of an abundance of caution due to Hurricane Hilary. 

The following buildings and facilities will be closed:

  • Picnic Shelters
  • Playgrounds
  • Multi-use Trails
  • Restrooms
  • Botanical Gardens and Arboretums
  • Lakes and Swim Beaches
  • Pools and Aquatic Centers
  • Natural Areas and Nature Centers
  • Performance Venues

Raging Waters

Raging Waters announced it will be closed Sunday due to the storm. Those who purchased tickets for that day can use them some other time, the water park said.

"Inclement Weather Notice - The safety of our guests and our team members is our top priority. Following the latest updates on Hurricane Hilary, Raging Waters Los Angeles will be closed on Sunday, August 20," Raging Waters said. "Tickets dated Sunday, August 20 will be honored on any 2023 operating day."

CicLAvia

CicLAvia—Koreatown meets Hollywood has been canceled for Sunday. "While CicLAvia has always gone on rain or shine, the weather is just too unpredictable. For the safety of everyone coming from near and far, this event has been canceled," they said in a social media post. "We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you at the next two CicLAvia events"

The next two events for CicLAmini will be held in North Hollywood on September 17, and CicLAvia—Heart of LA will be held on October 15.

USC Women's Soccer

USC women's soccer match for Sunday against Georgia was canceled.

"Full refunds will be given to all fans who purchased tickets, as well as a complimentary ticket to the OSU game on Oct. 8," they said in a social media post.

LAFC Match

The LAFC has also postponed their game that was set for this Sunday at the BMO Stadium.

The match was rescheduled for Wednesday Aug. 23 at 7:30 p.m. "Tickets purchased for Sunday's match will be honored for the rescheduled match," the LA Galaxy said in a social media post.

LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake

The LA Galaxy also announced that their match vs. Real Salt Lake has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 14th at 7:30PM "due to inclement weather and forecasted storms in the Los Angeles area due to Hurricane Hilary."

Those who purchased tickets for Sundays match will be able to have them honored for the rescheduled date on Oct. 14.

Grand Park Sunday Sessions

The Gloria Molina Grand Park event for this Sunday has also been affected and will instead be held virtually.

"LA your safety is our first priority. While we'll miss seeing you all. Our commitment to fostering connection & positivity remains stronger than ever," they said in a social media post.

Dodgers vs. Miami Marlins

Sunday's game between the LA Dodger's and the Miami Marlins was moved to Saturday.

The game was originally scheduled for Aug. 20 at 1:10 p.m., but was moved to Aug. 19 at 12:00 p.m. due to the hurricane.

Angels vs. Rays

The Los Angeles Angels' game on Sunday against the Rays was also rescheduled due to Hurricane Hilary.

The game was originally scheduled for Sunday but was changed to Saturday Aug. 19. Tickets for Sunday's rescheduled game will be honored at Game 1 on Saturday.
