Albert Song, 24, from Cerritos, died this week after a brutal fight at Icon Ultra Lounge nightclub in Los Angeles. LAPD investigators are combing through surveillance footage from the club in hopes of finding clues to exactly what happened, and why. Friends and family are mourning the loss of a man they describe as "an elite officer" and "exemplary student," they said Thursday.
Albert Song, 24, of Cerritos, died Monday afternoon, perhaps from injuries he suffered during a fight at Icon LA Ultra Lounge June 1.
[UPDATE, 9:41 A.M., Monday] The cause of death was blunt-force head and neck trauma, according to the coroner's office.
Song’s friends, who did not want to speak on camera, described him as a popular, energetic man who "stood out in a crowded room."
He was a cadet at West Point Military Academy and graduated in 2011, the school confirmed. Song, pictured below, also had many friends at Whitney High School in Cerritos, where he was very involved in sports.
Friends expressed sadness and well wishes for Song's family this week. On Facebook, one posting addressed to Whitney High School's soccer family read, in part:
"These past couple of days have been the toughest that we could ever imagine. Today is not a day to mourn for our loss, but to celebrate a life so full of love and excitement. Albert was not just a friend, but a true brother at arms to many."
Detectives with LAPD confirmed they are investigating Song's death as a homicide.

They had been looking through surveillance video in search for clues into what happened at the Figueroa Street nightclub. Calls from NBC4 to Icon Ultra Lounge were not immediately returned Thursday.
